What to do in Taipei?

Taipei has a lot of monasteries and some national parks. There are a lot of historical places in Taipei as well.
- One of the most popular place to visit in Taipei is the Taipei Tower. It is the third tallest building in the world, standing 508 meters high (1667 feet), The name Taipei 101, comes from the fact that it has 101 floors. There is an observation deck on the highest floor of the tower and there is a famous restaurant there too. Another reason why this is a popular tourist attraction is because of its elevator; it is the second fastest elevator in the world.
- Shilin Night Market is the biggest night market in Taipei. It is known for its variety of food and snacks that it offers. It is covered with cooked food market, restaurants and a lot of snacks vendors. You can also purchase some souvernirs or local artisan products.
- Another popular tourist place to visit is the Ximending Night Market. This market is special, this area used to be under Japanese occupation centuries ago and it was built during that time. This market is known for its Japanese and Taiwanese food. It has authentic local taiwanese and japanese food. It is close to the Elephant Mountain and other attractions in the area.
- The Elephant Mountain is one of the most popular site for sightseeing to view the city. It is a small natural park with a hill and walking paths. It is 183 meters high and it only takes around 15 to 20 minutes to walk to the top. There are other shaped hills that you can go visit and climb such as the Leopard Mountain, Lion Mountain and Tiger Mountain.
Snacks and Food
Taiwan in general is known for its diversity of snack and food. The most popular snacks and food are:
- Kuai Che Pork Paper: It is combination of pork, almonds, soy sauce and sugar.
- Zeng Noodles: These are instant noodles, but they are very different from the other.
- Chicken Cutlet: It is one of the most iconic snack/food of Taiwan. There are a lot of variants of it. It is a must try.
- Sugar and Spice Nougat: Bit-sized chewy, sweet, nutty and milky snacks. There are different flavors available such as French Nougat, Strawberry and Toffee.
- One of their most iconic snack in Taiwan is Pineapple Cake. It is a buttery pastry enclosed with pineapple filling. It is a very good balance of sweet and sour. You can buy them from pastry shops or buy them from grocery stores.
- Taiwan is also known for its tea, the Alishan Tea. It is made deep in the Chia Yi County, you can also visit there or taste the fresh leaves, usually dried up, in restaurants all over Taiwan such as Taipei.
- A snack to be eaten with the Alishan Tea is the Tai Yang Bin or the Sun Cake. It originated from Taichung and it is a round flaky pastry made from condensed malt sugar. It is a very popular snack to be eaten alongside with the popular chinese teas.
