There are multiple places you could go.
If you want to do some shopping; Nanjing Road has most of the shops you need from Nike to the Apple Store. You can also go the the opposite side of the river, Pudong. There are a lot of shopping center that offers luxury shopping such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton and etc.
If you want to do some sightseeing, you can walk along The Bund which is right at the end of Nanjing Road. During the night, there are some light shows that you can enjoy while you are walking.
If you want to enjoy an overview of the whole city, head towards the Shanghai Tower. It is the tallest building in China and the second tallest in the world. You will be able to view the city 360 degrees with the multiple glass windows that they have.
If you want to go see some ancient buildings that have been renovated to the modern world, head over to the Yu Garden or also known as Yuyuan. There are multiple traditional snacks that you can taste and multiple traditional shops that you can visit. You can also visit the Watertown (Zhujiajiao) which is only 1 hour away from central Shanghai. You can stroll around the beautifully preserved town and even take a boat ride that will ride you along the small river in the middle.
For those who are interested in history, there are multiple history museums in China. From the dynastys (Shanghai Museum) to the Jewish refugee museum.
If you want to have fun with your family, head over to Disneyland Park. It is very accessible by the metro. It blends in the magic of Disney with the culture of China together to give you a wonderful experience.
